In light of the escalating crisis, Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has officially declared a state of emergency across the province, directing immediate measures to address the growing situation. The decision follows the worsening of conditions that have put immense pressure on healthcare facilities and essential services.
Cancellation of Medical Staff Leaves
One of the key steps taken in response to the emergency is the cancellation of all leaves for doctors and medical staff working in hospitals across Punjab. The directive ensures that healthcare professionals are available in full capacity to manage the surge in patients and the increasing demands placed on the medical infrastructure.
The Chief Minister’s office issued a statement emphasizing that the province’s healthcare system must be fully operational to deal with the ongoing crisis effectively. The urgent measure aims to ensure that no medical staff is unavailable during this critical period.
Activation of Civil Defence and Relevant Departments
In addition to healthcare staff, the Punjab government has called upon officers and personnel from various civil defense and relevant government departments to report for duty immediately. The Civil Defence Department, alongside emergency services, has been mobilized to provide assistance in managing the crisis and supporting affected areas.
The decision reflects the government’s intent to mobilize all available resources to provide immediate relief and restore normalcy in the province. Officers from various sectors are expected to assist in coordinating efforts related to healthcare, security, and logistical support, ensuring the situation is handled in an organized manner.
Public and Private Sector Coordination
As part of the emergency response plan, the provincial government has also encouraged coordination between public and private sector medical facilities to share the burden of the crisis. This includes ensuring that private hospitals are equipped to handle overflow cases and that essential medical supplies are distributed where needed most.
Additional Government Measures
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz assured that further steps will be taken to stabilize the situation, which includes the provision of additional medical supplies, transportation support for healthcare workers, and assistance to areas that may be particularly hard-hit. The government has also pledged to maintain close communication with national authorities, seeking additional assistance and ensuring that Punjab receives the necessary resources to manage the crisis.
In her statement, the Chief Minister reiterated the importance of public cooperation during this challenging time, urging citizens to follow safety guidelines and take necessary precautions to minimize further risks.
