The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency has announced a ban on vehicles without green stickers in Lahore to curb smog. The restriction will take effect after November 15 as authorities intensify efforts to control rising smog in the city. Officials say the government wants immediate improvements in air quality as winter approaches.
Mandatory Exhaust Testing for All Vehicles
Environment DG Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh confirmed that every vehicle must undergo exhaust testing before using public roads. He said enforcement teams will seize vehicles lacking green stickers or ETS certificates. The policy aims to remove polluting vehicles that contribute heavily to dangerous smog levels. He added that motorists must comply to ensure safer air for residents.
Zero-Tolerance Policy for Polluters
Dr. Hamid stressed that only vehicles meeting Punjab’s environmental standards will remain on the roads. The EPA has launched the most aggressive crackdown yet against polluters. Teams will monitor high-traffic routes daily and take swift action against violators. Authorities believe strict regulation will help reduce toxic emissions from older and poorly maintained vehicles.
Public Asked to Complete Testing Immediately
The Environment DG urged citizens to complete exhaust and noise testing without delay. He said the agency will allow no exemptions after November 15. Citizens can visit authorised testing centres to obtain certificates and green stickers. The EPA plans awareness campaigns and roadside inspections throughout the coming weeks. Officials expect visible improvement in Lahore’s air quality once the ban is fully enforced.
Cleaner Air Is the Main Goal
Authorities hope the crackdown will support ongoing smog-reduction initiatives. They believe responsible road use and vehicle maintenance will help protect public health this winter.
