The Sindh government has officially declared a public holiday on October 20 for the Hindu community to celebrate the festival of Holi. The announcement came through an official notification issued on Friday, extending warm wishes to the Hindu community across the province.
According to the notification, the public holiday will be applicable to all Hindu employees working in both government and private institutions. The move aims to allow the community to celebrate Holi — the festival of colors — with traditional zeal, joy, and enthusiasm.
The provincial government stated that all administrative departments, autonomous bodies, and organizations have been instructed to ensure the implementation of the holiday as per the official order. This includes educational institutions, offices, and organizations where members of the Hindu community are employed.
Holi, one of the most vibrant and joyous festivals in the Hindu calendar, symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of spring. It is celebrated with colors, music, and community gatherings, bringing together people of all ages to mark the occasion in harmony.
Officials noted that the Sindh government’s decision reflects its commitment to inclusivity, religious harmony, and recognition of the province’s diverse cultural fabric. The statement from the provincial administration also emphasized that such measures promote interfaith understanding and uphold the spirit of unity among all communities residing in Sindh.
“The Sindh government extends heartfelt greetings to the Hindu community and hopes this festival brings happiness, prosperity, and peace to all,” the notification read.
The Holi holiday announcement has been widely welcomed by the Hindu community and civil society organizations, who view it as an acknowledgment of their cultural and religious identity within the province’s multi-ethnic society.
