The opposition alliance, Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aain Pakistan (TTAP), has decided to reach out to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for political reconciliation, sources said on Wednesday.
The decision was taken during a TTAP meeting chaired by President Mahmood Khan Achakzai and attended by senior leaders including Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Asad Qaiser, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, and others.
TTAP has resolved to invite the PPP to a two-day national conference scheduled to be held in Islamabad on December 21-22.
The conference will also extend invitations to opposition parties, bar councils, and human rights organizations, creating a platform for dialogue on pressing political issues. However, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will not be invited to the event.
The primary aim of the conference is to explore avenues for political dialogue and reconciliation, particularly among opposition factions. A committee comprising Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai, and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry has been formed to organise the event and coordinate participation.
An official statement after the meeting emphasized the need for the government to facilitate a meeting between Mahmood Khan Achakzai and other political leaders with jailed PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In addition to political matters, the meeting also addressed regional trade issues, calling for the immediate restoration of border trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Leaders urged both countries to resolve disputes through diplomatic channels, highlighting the importance of stable economic and political relations.
The TTAP leadership emphasized that the national conference would serve as a platform for building consensus among opposition parties, fostering political dialogue, and addressing national issues in a structured and inclusive manner, while excluding the ruling party to maintain opposition cohesion.
