ISLAMABAD: A Senator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Saifullah Abro resigned from the Senate today after voting in favour of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He announced his support for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the Pakistan Army.
Speaking on the Senate floor, Abro said, “If anyone is mistaken, let me say that I came here to vote for Asim Munir, not for anyone else.” His statement drew attention across party lines amid an intense parliamentary session.
Senate Passes 27th Constitutional Amendment
The Senate approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill despite opposition protests and a walkout. The bill seeks sweeping reforms in the country’s military and judicial structures. Apart from government members, the Awami National Party (ANP), PTI-backed Abro, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Ahmed Khan supported the legislation.
Abro Praises Military Victory Over India
Abro praised the Pakistan armed forces for what he described as a “humiliating defeat” inflicted on India in May. He added that the acknowledgment of this victory came from US President Donald Trump, who “showed ultimate respect to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.”
Saifullah Abro said he expected disqualification for defying party policy and the best option for him to quit the Senate seat. He lambasted PTI leadership for abandoning him during personal hardships. Abro recalled that during the 26th Amendment period, his wife and several relatives were arrested but PTI did not came to their support.
