The PTI UK chapter has deleted a social media post on X featuring a video of a demonstration outside the Pakistani consulate in Bradford, describing the content as โprovocativeโ against Pakistanโs military leadership. The party said it does not endorse unlawful behavior and advised citizens to โmeasure their remarks to avoid any misunderstandings.โ
The post, shared on December 23, showed demonstrators making metaphorical threats against the military while surrounded by PTI flags.
PTI UK clarified that while the individualโs remarks were not believed to incite violence, the post was removed out of caution to prevent legal or public misunderstanding. The party reiterated its commitment to non-violence and the rule of law, following guidance from former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The deletion follows diplomatic action by Pakistan. On Friday, the Foreign Office summoned Acting British High Commissioner Matt Cannell to deliver a demarche over the video, citing โprovocative statementsโ and โincitement to violenceโ against the military leadership. Pakistan formally requested UK authorities to identify, investigate, and prosecute those responsible.
PTI also expressed concern for the individual involved, urging that she be protected from โtransnational repressionโ and allowed due process. The party highlighted broader issues of political repression in Pakistan, citing the treatment of Imran Khan and Bushra Khan in prison, and called for investigations into such cases.
The development has drawn criticism from Pakistani government officials. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and other ministers have previously accused PTI of spreading threats under the guise of political activity and urged action against the individuals involved.
Former PTI leader Imran Ismail called for a clear condemnation of inflammatory statements to prevent escalation and protect national interests.
The incident underscores the tension between political expression and legal accountability, particularly involving overseas demonstrations, and comes amid ongoing efforts by the Pakistani government to repatriate individuals accused of targeting state institutions from the UK.
