ISLAMABAD: PTI leaders claimed that Imran Khan underwent eye surgery at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.ย PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed that the partyโs jailed founder, Imran Khan, underwent eye surgery at the PIMS.
He, however, alleged that the government concealed details of his medical condition for several days. He said authorities continued to mislead the public while denying the former prime minister basic human rights in custody.
PTI alleges concealment of medical treatment
Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Raja said government officials kept Imran Khanโs health status hidden for nearly five days. He added that the PTI founderโs family was not informed about the reason for transferring him to PIMS.
According to Salman Akram Raja, the government acknowledged the situation only on Thursday, prompting PTI representatives to visit Adiala Jail.
His remarks followed a statement by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, who confirmed that Imran Khan was briefly taken to Pims, where eye specialists examined him. However, Raja maintained that authorities failed to provide transparent information and continued to violate the PTI founderโs fundamental rights.
Meanwhile, a large number of PTI leaders and lawmakers, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, gathered outside the Supreme Court after authorities again denied them permission to meet Imran Khan. Raja said nearly 200 parliamentarians were present to protest what he described as continued rights violations.
Protest escalates outside Supreme Court
Raja said he and senior lawyer Latif Khosa attempted to meet Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, but the meeting did not take place as the chief justice was not in his chambers. On the chief justiceโs instructions, they later met the Supreme Court registrar and informed the Attorney General about the matter.
โWe have decided to sit here,โ Raja said, warning that denying Imran Khan fundamental rights could set a dangerous precedent for others.
Addressing the gathering, CM Afridi said Imran Khanโs family was not informed that he had been medically examined twice in jail. He alleged that the PTI founder was taken to PIMS under the cover of darkness and questioned the quality of treatment, claiming the hospital lacked a retina specialist.
