The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has moved forward with its preparations for the upcoming by-elections in Punjab, as the party’s political committee officially named its candidates for two key constituencies.
In a statement issued after a committee meeting, it was confirmed that Ain Ahmad has been chosen to contest from NA-66 (Wazirabad), while Munazza Fatima will represent the party in PP-87 (Mianwali). Both candidates are being fielded with the full backing of PTI, reflecting the party’s strategy to secure important seats in the province.
Party insiders indicated that PTI is in the final stages of finalizing its nominees for the remaining constituencies, with further announcements expected soon. The political committee is also set to present its decisions to the party’s founder, Imran Khan, in the coming days for his review and guidance before the campaign gains further momentum.
During the same meeting, the committee strongly condemned the arrest of Aleema Khan’s sons, criticizing the move as an attempt to pressure PTI leaders and their families. The statement emphasized that such actions would not deter the party from pursuing its political struggle and participating actively in the electoral process.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan has reportedly advised the committee to defer the formal nomination of opposition leaders until all available legal options have been explored.
According to the party, this approach reflects Khan’s strategy of ensuring that any decision regarding leadership positions in the opposition is taken with full consideration of the ongoing legal challenges.
Should PTI face legal obstacles in this regard, the names of Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Azam Swati have been put forward as alternatives to assume the roles of opposition leaders.
The announcement of candidates marks a significant step in PTI’s preparations for the upcoming by-elections, signaling the party’s determination to strengthen its presence in Punjab despite ongoing political and legal hurdles.
With more names likely to be revealed soon, the by-polls are expected to become a major political battleground for the party.
