RAWALPINDI: In a major crackdown on mobile phone tampering, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office in Rawalpindi, in collaboration with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), conducted a successful raid at City Mobile Center in Singapore Plaza.
The enforcement action targeted illegal practices involving the tampering of IMEI numbers and the sale of cloned or “patched” mobile devices. During the raid, authorities confiscated key equipment used in these activities, including a laptop, a CPU, and a mobile phone.
The PTA reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward the unlawful modification of mobile device identifiers, emphasizing that such actions pose significant threats to national security and public safety. Illegally altered devices can facilitate cybercrime, financial fraud, kidnappings, and other criminal acts by enabling users to remain anonymous.
“The PTA is fully committed to safeguarding the integrity of Pakistan’s mobile communication networks,” the authority stated. It also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to mobile phone tampering or device cloning.
Legal proceedings will be initiated against those found involved in these offenses, the PTA confirmed.
