ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Salman Naseer said that an auction will be held for two new franchises in the 11th edition of the tournament. Speaking at a press conference at the National Bank Stadium, he said bidders would get a choice of city names for their teams.
Naseer explained that the current franchise owners will have the right to match the valuation of the new teams if they wish to retain ownership. “With the revaluation of the existing six PSL franchises nearing completion, current owners will have the right to match new valuations or opt out,” he stated.
Franchise Renewal and Ownership Rights
Under the existing agreements, team owners hold the first right of renewal for the next 10 editions based on the updated valuation. Naseer added that if any franchise chooses not to renew, those rights will be offered through an open auction, allowing new investors to join under the revised structure.
Response to Multan Sultans Owner’s Criticism
Addressing questions about Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen, who recently criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and tore up a legal notice from the board, Naseer said such matters should be handled “behind closed doors.”
“You want me to do the same thing they’re doing, to tarnish the reputation of this league. I can’t do that,” he said. “If this matter is to be discussed, it will be done legally in the boardroom.”
Tareen’s viral video had slammed the PCB for its “mediocre mindset.” Later, the Multan Sultans franchise issued a statement proposing governance reforms to enhance transparency, rebuild trust, and strengthen the PSL’s long-term sustainability.
