The PSL anthem titled โGroove Meraโ this year has left the nation divided; some in support while others criticizing it.
The song is a blend of the powerful vocals of prolific singer Naseebo Lal, the pop singer Aima Baig and rap by the Young Stunners.
Regardless of the criticism, the video gathered more than 6 million views on YouTube and was able to promote the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The video shows how this yearโs PSL match will be different than before due to the pandemic; mainly watched on TVs, mobile phones, laptops, etc.
According to the board, the anthem โis a celebration of Pakistanโs musical diversityโ presenting artists from the different musical spectrums.
It gained further criticism after being bashed by the famous fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar. He referred to it as โbad compositionโ.
However, supporters of the song applaud its out-of-the-box concept and catchy beat, terming it an โamazing combination of modern and traditional musicโ.
A number of celebrities called out Akhtar for โdegradingโ the artistsโ efforts and came out in defense of Naseebo Lal. Cricket and music have always formed a natural union in Pakistan.
The idea was to pave the way for a new sound of a cricket in Pakistan that attracts the multi-dimensional audience that comes with Pakistanโs biggest cricketing event, PSL.
