
ISLAMABAD: All private schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory will now observe a four-day workweek (Monday to Thursday) with immediate effect.
The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) announced the decision on Thursday as part of the governmentโs austerity and fuel conservation measures amid rising global oil prices due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Punjab Schools to Close on Fridays
In Punjab, all educational institutions โ both government and private โ will remain closed on Fridays. Schools will operate from Monday to Thursday, with timings from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm.
For double-shift schools, the morning shift will run from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm, while the afternoon shift will be from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
Schools across Punjab reopened on April 1 after a 22-day closure (March 10 to 31). During the closure, institutions conducted online classes, but examinations were held as scheduled.
Sindh Announces New Schedule
In Sindh, the government has also resumed physical classes from April 1. Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that schools, colleges, and universities across the province switched back to in-person teaching from Wednesday.
Overall, these changes are part of the federal and provincial governmentsโ efforts to reduce fuel consumption during the current energy crisis caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
