In Rawalpindi, the father of a deceased inmate from Adiala Jail has lodged a murder complaint against the jail authorities, as confirmed by police on Monday.
Shahid Bhatti, father of 22-year-old Shahwaiz Bhatti, who was in judicial remand for murder charges, filed the complaint at Saddar Beroni Police Station. He alleged that his son was murdered by jail staff in collaboration with his adversaries.
Bhatti recounted that his son had recently clashed with another inmate named Saim. He stated, “My son was transferred to Adiala Jail on June 10 and had a dispute with another inmate named Saim a few days ago.”
The incident took a tragic turn on July 8 when Bhatti received a distressing call informing him of his sonโs deteriorating health. Rushing to District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi, he was devastated to find his son deceased.
Expressing his belief, Bhatti claimed, “I firmly believe that the jail administration, in connivance with his rivals, murdered my son.”
He recalled a visit to his son on July 4 where initial attempts to see him were denied. Upon persistence, he was allowed a brief meeting during which Shahwaiz revealed concerns about being isolated and fearing for his life.
Police have taken action by registering a murder case and launching an investigation into the matter. Additionally, authorities have initiated a judicial inquiry and ordered a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of Shahwaiz Bhattiโs death.
