ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme was formally launched in Sindh on Friday from NED University Karachi, marking the distribution of 20,000 laptops to students across the province. The initiative aims to strengthen digital access and support higher education through modern technology.
Youth education placed at the centre of development
Federal Government Spokesperson for Sindh Affairs Raja Khaliq Zaman Ansari said the scheme reflects the federal government’s commitment to empowering students with digital tools and practical skills. While addressing the ceremony, he described youth education as a central pillar of national development and economic progress.
Ansari stated that access to technology plays a decisive role in preparing students for research-driven learning and emerging job markets. Therefore, the laptop distribution will help students enhance their capabilities in information technology, data analysis, and academic research. He added that the initiative would also support innovation and independent learning among university students.
Revived scheme focuses on transparency and inclusion
The spokesperson noted that the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme had remained discontinued since 2018. However, the current federal government restored the programme with a renewed emphasis on transparency, merit, and effective implementation. According to him, authorities designed the revived scheme to ensure fair distribution and measurable outcomes.
Ansari credited the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme for playing a key role in bringing the initiative back. Moreover, he said the programme aligns with broader efforts to integrate students into national education and technology frameworks. As a result, students in Sindh will receive equal opportunities to benefit from federal initiatives.
He further said the government continues to take concrete steps to include Sindh’s youth in nationwide digital and educational reforms. In addition, the scheme will support students pursuing advanced learning, science, and technology-based disciplines.
Reaffirming the government’s stance, Ansari said education-focused policies would remain a priority. He added that supporting young people through practical and technology-driven measures would help build a skilled workforce and strengthen Pakistan’s future development.
