ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit Tehran today as part of his ongoing four-nation diplomatic tour, which aims to bolster regional cooperation and advance Pakistan’s foreign policy objectives.
According to sources, the Prime Minister will receive a warm welcome upon arrival in the Iranian capital this afternoon. During the visit, he will hold high-level talks with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, focusing on key areas of bilateral relations, economic collaboration, and regional security.
Diplomatic insiders suggest that Prime Minister Sharif will also brief the Iranian leadership on recent developments in the region, including the rising tensions with India, and seek to build consensus on peace and stability.
The Pakistani delegation will remain in Tehran overnight and attend a series of meetings before departing for the next destination in the multi-country tour.
Regional Outreach Strategy
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently on a four-nation tour from May 25 to 30, with scheduled stops in Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan. The tour is part of a broader initiative to deepen economic ties, enhance diplomatic engagement, and strengthen regional cooperation.
On May 25, Prime Minister Sharif held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to elevate the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkey. They also expressed mutual support on critical issues, including the Kashmir dispute.
Sharif also conveyed his gratitude to Pakistan’s allies for their support during the recent diplomatic standoff with India.
Climate Focus in Tajikistan
In the final leg of his tour, the Prime Minister is expected to attend an international conference on glaciers in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on May 29 and 30. His participation underscores Pakistan’s commitment to addressing climate change and environmental challenges in the region.
The tour reflects Islamabad’s renewed diplomatic momentum under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, aimed at positioning Pakistan as a proactive player in fostering regional peace, economic growth, and multilateral cooperation.
