Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for Egypt to participate in the Gaza Peace Plan Summit being held today in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
The high-profile summit is jointly chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, with the objective of finalizing a peace framework aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza and stabilizing the broader Middle East region.
According to official sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz is accompanied by a delegation of senior officials. His participation follows an official invitation extended by both the U.S. and Egyptian presidents, reflecting Pakistanโs commitment to supporting global peace efforts and regional stability.
The Gaza Peace Summit has drawn significant international attention, with more than 20 heads of state expected to attend. Among the prominent leaders present are British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and French President Emmanuel Macron. The event marks one of the most extensive international gatherings on the Gaza issue since the escalation of hostilities in the region.
Notably, no representative from Israel is participating in the summit, while the Palestinian resistance group Hamas has already announced its decision to abstain.
Despite these absences, the summit will focus on endorsing and signing the Gaza Peace Agreement, followed by discussions on the implementation mechanism and long-term peace strategies.
Reports indicate that the primary objective of the conference is to achieve a sustainable ceasefire, ensure humanitarian aid delivery, and pave the way for reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
The leaders will also deliberate on enhancing international cooperation to prevent future escalations. Prime Minister Shehbazโs presence underscores Pakistanโs longstanding advocacy for peace, justice, and the protection of Palestinian rights within the framework of international law.
