PNS Tariq is the fourth MILGEM Class Corvette.
KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz have launched the fourth MILGEM Class Corvette PNS Tariq.
According to the report, the MILGEM project, which began in 2018, plans to construct four Corvettes for the Pakistan Navy, with two being built in Pakistan and two in Turey.

A corvette serves as a small warship, traditionally classified as the smallest vessel considered to be a proper (or “rated”) warship. The frigate stands as the warship class above the corvette, while historically, the sloop-of-war was the class below.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz interacted with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the launch of PNS Tariq.
Previously, the Prime Minister attended the launching ceremony of the third Naval Corvette, PNS Khyber, in Istanbul, in November last year.
In August 2021 and May 2022, Istanbul and Karachi witnessed the launch of the first two Corvettes, PNS Babur and PNS Badar, respectively.
The MILGEM project stands as a lasting symbol of Pakistan-Turkiye collaboration in the maritime domain.
This project marks a concrete milestone towards achieving self-reliance and indigenization, fulfilling the Pakistan Navy’s crucial security requirements.
