KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Waqar Mehdi has secured victory in the Senate by-election for a vacant seat from Sindh, according to unofficial results.
Polling took place at the Sindh Assembly from 9 AM to 4 PM, with 161 MPAs casting their votes, as confirmed by the Assembly Secretary.
Mehdi received 111 votes, while his opponent, Nighat Mirza of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), trailed significantly. Although two of Mehdi’s votes were rejected, he comfortably surpassed the 81-vote threshold required to win the seat.
