Malir Union Football Stadium Inaugurated as Part of Karachi Uplift Plan
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) underscored its commitment to urban development and civic progress on Sunday with the inauguration of the Malir Union Football Stadium in Karachi. The event was part of a series of development initiatives launched across the city, showcasing the partyโs broader agenda to modernise both rural and urban areas of Sindh.
Speaking at the stadium opening, Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani emphasized that development is no longer limited to rural strongholds. โWe are committed to inclusive urban growth, and several projects worth billions of rupees are currently underway in Karachi,โ he said. Ghani noted that many of these infrastructure and community projects, including community centres and civic facilities, will be completed within the current financial year.
The newly inaugurated stadium is part of the PPPโs efforts to promote sports and youth engagement in underprivileged areas like Lyari and Malir, which have historically lacked adequate recreational infrastructure.
Womenโs Bike Rally Celebrates Empowerment and National Unity
Earlier in the day, Karachi also witnessed a vibrant display of womenโs empowerment as hundreds of female bikers participated in a 29-kilometre motorbike rally, organized as part of Independence Day celebrations across Sindh. The rally was flagged off by Saeed Ghani and Sindh Tourism and Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, beginning at the Quaid-e-Azam House and culminating at the historic Chaukhandi Tombs.
The event, featuring enthusiastic participation from women of all ages, was hailed as a powerful symbol of national unity and gender equality. Minister Zulfiqar Ali Shah praised the rally as a tribute to the legacy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, noting that Aseefa Bhutto Zardari is now continuing that legacy by promoting womenโs leadership and visibility in public spaces.
โThese initiatives show that Sindh is not just celebrating independence, but also progress,โ he said.
