ISLAMABAD: Power distribution companies across Pakistan have submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) requesting a reduction in electricity tariffs.
The companies are seeking a cut of over one rupee per unit under the quarterly adjustment mechanism. According to the petition, they anticipate a slight decrease of three paisas per unit through the monthly fuel adjustment for March, and a reduction of up to one rupee per unit under the quarterly adjustment.
If approved, the total relief for consumers could reach Rs51.49 billion.
The request relates to the third quarterly adjustment for the 2024–25 fiscal year and proposes a reduction of Rs47.124 billion in capacity charges as well.
NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing tomorrow to review both the quarterly adjustment and the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) petitions.
The petition also notes that 8.409 billion units of electricity were produced in March at an average cost of Rs9.22 per unit — slightly lower than the reference cost of Rs9.25 per unit.
Should NEPRA grant approval, consumers may soon see a notable decrease in their electricity bills.
