ISLAMABAD: Former PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced on Thursday that his new political party will be named ‘Awam Pakistan’, and it is expected to be launched this month.
In an interview on Aaj News‘ Rubaroo, Abbasi mentioned that the party will submit an application to the Election Commission of Pakistan under this name.
He clarified that he would not rejoin the PML-N, citing his support for the “vote ko izzat do” narrative, which he claims changed after PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s return to the country.
He acknowledged the challenges Nawaz faces in reviving the party, while also expressing respect for Nawaz and recalling his support during tough times.
Criticizing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Abbasi argued that accountability should be straightforward. “To check someone, just review their expenses and whether they are paying taxes,” he suggested, implying that tax evasion is a primary issue.
