Setback for PML-N: Talal Chaudhry Excluded from Election Race

Election Race

In a significant turn of events, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry faced exclusion from the upcoming election race, following the awarding of a ticket to Malik Nawab Sher Waseer from NA-96 Jaranwala. The decision dealt a blow to Chaudhry, who had secured a seat in the National Assembly from the same constituency in the 2013 elections. Legal challenges in Faisalabad, including a disqualification in a contempt of court case, contributed to Chaudhry’s electoral setbacks.

Malik Nawab Sher Waseer, previously associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, expressed gratitude for receiving the PML-N ticket and shared that Nawaz Sharif personally conveyed his congratulations. Supporters celebrated the decision by distributing sweets, reinforcing their endorsement of Waseer’s candidacy in the upcoming elections.

In a separate development, PML-N senior leader Rana Sanaullah commented on the Peshawar High Court’s verdict, stating that intra-party elections were no longer necessary within political parties. He emphasized the conclusion of the Election Act 2017 after the PHC ruling.

Sanaullah urged the extension of the provision refraining political parties from conducting intra-party elections. Characterizing the PHC’s decision as a setback for the legal system and a victory for those challenging the law, Sanaullah expressed concerns about the negative implications and described the verdict as a morale boost for rioters following the events of May 9.

As the political landscape undergoes shifts with Chaudhry’s exclusion and Sanaullah’s commentary on intra-party elections, the PML-N faces challenges and strategic considerations ahead of the forthcoming elections.
