Raoof Hasan
ISLAMABAD: After surviving a harrowing attack in Islamabad earlier this week, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Raoof Hasan made shocking revelations on Wednesday, claiming that the assailants intended to “slit” his throat.
Speaking at a press conference alongside PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan and senior leader Azam Swati at the party’s secretariat in Islamabad, Hasan emotionally recounted the traumatic ordeal, revealing that his party’s adversaries had relentlessly pursued him, even threatening him just days before the attack.
He expressed gratitude for surviving the assault, acknowledging that his colleagues within the party had faced similar, if not worse, situations.
Hasan criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, accusing them of favoring a party that capitulated to external influences.
Despite the ordeal, Hasan affirmed PTI’s resilience, vowing that the party leaders would never compromise their principles.
Pointing to party founder Imran Khan’s incarceration, Hasan asserted that the incumbent rulers would soon recognize the necessity of engaging with him.
In solidarity, Omar condemned the attack as an “assassination bid” and rejected the FIR filed by the police, calling for a judicial commission to investigate the incident.
However, Islamabad police refuted Hasan’s objections to the FIR, stating that it was based on his written request. Meanwhile, the federal government formed a committee to investigate the attack, with Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar deeming it “regrettable and sad.”
The incident, perpetrated by a group of individuals identified as transgender persons, sparked outrage within PTI, although the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
The shocking episode captured in a video shared by PTI underscores the gravity of the situation, as Hasan is seen pleading for medical assistance while bloodied and injured.
