PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur announced that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legal team successfully facilitated the release of at least 700 PTI workers from prison during Ramadan, underscoring the party’s dedication to freeing its members who have been unjustly detained.
Gandapur emphasized that both PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are incarcerated without any legal grounds. He stressed the importance of their honorable acquittal for the restoration of political stability in the country.
The KP CM expressed confidence that former Prime Minister Imran Khan would soon be released from jail without any behind-the-scenes deals, asserting that Khan would ultimately prevail in court.
Gandapur further highlighted the efforts of the Insaf Lawyers team, which has been working tirelessly to secure bail for PTI workers. Over 2,000 workers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Karachi, Balochistan, and Kashmir have already been released, with equal legal assistance provided to all workers, regardless of their background.
The CM also revealed that more than 700 workers had been released during Ramadan alone, and that 174 additional release orders were being processed for jails in Karachi and Jhelum.
He confirmed that over Rs 22 crore had been deposited in bonds for the release of workers and assured that efforts would continue to secure the release of more detainees before Eid.
In a related development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted permission for PTI leaders to meet with party founder Imran Khan every Tuesday and Thursday. However, the court imposed the condition that no media interactions would be allowed following these meetings. A larger bench, headed by IHC Acting Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, heard over 20 petitions filed by PTI leaders seeking to meet Khan. The bench ruled that only individuals nominated by Imran Khan’s coordinator, Salman Akram Raja, would be allowed to meet him.
