PTI founder fears that Faiz Hameed is being set up as a witness against him

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has claimed that former spymaster Faiz Hameed is being set up as a witness against him.

“The drama of Faiz Hameed’s arrest is being staged to bring my case before a military court,” Imran Khan remarked.

These comments came after the Pakistan Army’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced that former ISI chief Faiz Hameed had been taken into military custody for violations of the Army Act. Subsequently, it was reported that three other retired Army officers were also detained for similar violations.

Former ISI chief Faiz Hameed is reportedly implicated in the Top City case.

Imran Khan, speaking on Monday, dismissed the cases against him as baseless. “I am not familiar with any other commanders, but I know Faiz Hameed was a capable general,” he said.

He added, “These actions are only bringing more people closer to PTI.”

Addressing rumors about his wife’s alleged connection with the former ISI chief, Imran Khan said, “Shameful things are being said about Bushra Bibi, claiming she used to get information from Faiz Hameed.”

Earlier, three more retired army officers were taken into custody as court martial proceedings against Faiz Hameed continue.

According to ISPR, this move is part of a broader investigation into activities that allegedly violated military discipline and contributed to political instability. “Further investigation is underway against the retired officers and their associates,” the statement added.

The ISPR noted that these officers are suspected of colluding to advance political interests, potentially destabilizing the country.
