ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expelled Sher Afzal Marwat from the party, as confirmed by an official notification issued by Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi.
Reacting to the expulsion, Marwat expressed his dismay, stating that he had been defamed by party members and that constant online trolling had taken a toll on his health. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he accused the PTI founder of being easily influenced, believing whatever people tell him. He also alleged that a conspiratorial woman played a role in his removal.
According to the notification, Marwat was expelled on the instructions of PTI founder Imran Khan following a review of his response to a show-cause notice and his recent actions. Sources revealed that Imran Khan directed party leaders to revoke Marwat’s basic membership after multiple complaints were raised about his conduct at a political rally in Swabi.
Tensions at the Swabi Rally
The decision to expel Marwat appears to stem from a series of incidents during a PTI rally in Swabi on February 8. Marwat was reportedly denied a spot on stage and was not allowed to address the gathering, leading to visible frustration. He later remarked, “If the leadership was unhappy with my presence, they should have informed me beforehand. I attended the event solely out of loyalty to Imran Khan.”
Marwat also accused the party leadership of failing to communicate their dissatisfaction, saying, “If my participation is a problem for the leadership, they should let me know.”
Tensions escalated further during the rally when Marwat clashed with PTI leader Salman Akram Raja. While Raja was delivering a speech, Marwat reportedly led chants against him from the stage, intensifying discord within the party.
The expulsion highlights internal rifts within PTI as it continues to grapple with controversies and disciplinary challenges.
