Voter Fraud
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has asserted that the general elections held on February 8 will be remembered for what it claims is the “biggest voter fraud” in the country’s history, with allegations of irregularities, manipulation, and fraudulent activities. PTI’s Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan addressed a press conference in Islamabad, highlighting concerns about the polling process and the alleged discrepancies in the results.
Hasan stated that, according to PTI’s estimates, only 92 out of 177 National Assembly seats, which were expected to be won by PTI, were actually allotted to the party. He claimed that 85 seats were fraudulently taken away from PTI. The party is taking constitutional and legal steps to address these alleged discrepancies.
To support their claims, the PTI spokesperson mentioned discrepancies between Form 45 and Form 47, emphasizing differences in the numbers of votes polled for National Assembly and provincial assembly seats. Hasan also pointed out instances where the number of rejected votes exceeded the margin of victory.
Seemabia Tahir, a representative of PTI, played a video during the press conference, presenting what the party alleges to be evidence of rigging in the polls. She raised concerns about the distribution of seats in different regions, stating that PTI received a significant number of votes in Karachi but did not secure any seats. Similar disparities were mentioned for other provinces.
Lawyer Salman Akram Raja, who contested the polls with PTI’s backing, claimed that the alleged rigging occurred at the office of the returning officer (RO). Raja asserted that “fictitious” Form 47s were created, and Form 45s were tampered with, questioning the integrity of the election results.
The PTI’s allegations have raised significant concerns about the transparency and fairness of the electoral process, prompting calls for a comprehensive investigation into the reported irregularities. The party’s assertions suggest a heightened focus on addressing perceived electoral interference and ensuring accountability in the aftermath of the February 8 elections.
