The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the UK has charged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Gulfam Hussain with issuing threats of violence, engaging in stalking, and carrying out acts of intimidation against members of the Sharif family.
Gulfam was taken into police custody and is expected to appear in court within the next two days. His arrest occurred four days ago after he violated police-imposed restrictions by approaching the Sharif family’s Avenfield apartments on the day former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in London.
The initial complaint was lodged by Khurram Butt, the UK Youth Wing leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who made headlines for opposing former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s bid to become Chancellor of Oxford University.
Speaking on the development, Butt stated: “Gulfam has been charged by the CPS with violence, stalking, and harassment. This sets a strong precedent that those involved in threats or violent acts will be held accountable. I submitted a comprehensive trail of evidence to the police, including videos and online posts.”
Earlier in January, Scotland Yard had released Gulfam Hussain on bail following his arrest for threatening Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and other family members via TikTok. He had also made explicit threats to bomb the Sharifs’ Park Lane residence, prompting police to bar him from entering the vicinity of the Avenfield flats.
After his initial release, Gulfam said: “The police showed me my TikTok videos and banned me from going near the Sharif family residences. I’m currently out on bail until April. These were political expressions—I don’t support violence. My struggle will continue.”
He also confirmed that his four mobile phones were confiscated during the ongoing investigation. Gulfam claimed his actions were fueled by frustration over Imran Khan’s conviction in the £190 million case, adding that he felt compelled to “prove his loyalty” to PTI supporters through a public demonstration.
In one particularly inflammatory TikTok live stream, Hussain threatened to bomb the Sharif-owned apartments and “drag” family members through the streets of London, vowing retribution if Imran Khan was harmed in Pakistan.
Previously a staunch supporter of PML-N, Hussain was often seen confronting PTI activists outside the Sharif family’s London residence.
However, he switched allegiance to PTI about four months ago and began regularly broadcasting political content via TikTok, even quitting his job as a chef to focus entirely on social media activism.
