prohibited funding case: Court orders Imran Khan to appear before investigation officer

ISLAMABAD: A banking court today ordered former prime minister and PTI chief to appear before the investigation officer in the prohibited funding case probe.

The court extended the pre-arrest bail of Imran Khan in this case, but asked him to be part of investigation by appearing in person.

Earlier, the banking court in Islamabad reserved its verdict on Imran Khan’s plea for an extension in pre-arrest bail.

During today’s hearing, Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi urged the court to reject bail of Imran Khan, whereas, Khan’s lawyer sought a two-week extension in bail on medical grounds.

The prosecutor told the court that Imran Khan has been politically active from the day of attempt to assassinate him during PTI’s long march rally in Wazirabad.

He said, “Imran Khan is running the affairs of the party but he doesn’t like to appear in the court.”

The prosecutor also pointed out that neither Imran Khan appeared in the court in this case nor joined the probe.

Khan’s lawyer informed the court that PTI chief was injured in attempt on his life and he would be part of the investigation when doctors allow him.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor said, “Imran Khan appears on TV but not in the courts.”

The banking tribunal Judge Rakhshanda Shaheen rejected Imran Khan’s request through his lawyer to interrogate him at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.

The judge, however, ordered former prime minister to appear before the investigation officer in prohibited funding case.

She directed Khan to join the probe to ensure his presence before the IO under any circumstances and adjourned the hearing till January 31.
