Prime Ministerial Candidate
LAHORE: In a significant political development, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has been officially nominated as the party’s prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming general elections on February 8. The decision was made during a pivotal meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) at Bilawal House in Lahore. The CEC, PPP’s top decision-making body, deliberated on the party’s strategy for the upcoming elections, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s candidacy.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, concurrently contesting from NA-127 Lahore, where he will face competition from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shaista Pervaiz Malik and a PTI-backed candidate, expressed his determination to run in the elections from Lahore, irrespective of opposition. During the meeting, the CEC also discussed the party’s election manifesto, emphasizing priorities such as youth and women empowerment, employment, healthcare, and education.
Addressing the media alongside PPP Secretary General Taj Haider and former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari launched a strong critique against his political opponents.
He claimed that former military generals had imposed both the PML-N and PTI on the country, suggesting that these parties were representative of the ruling elite and failed to address the nation’s pressing issues. Bilawal emphasized PPP’s commitment to presenting a clear vision and manifesto before every election, putting people’s needs at the forefront.
Promising tangible reforms, Bilawal outlined plans for energy parks in every district headquarters, free electricity up to 300 units, 200% wage increases for employees, expansion of the BISP network, and the provision of free and quality education.
He expressed gratitude to the PPP CEC for endorsing him as the prime ministerial candidate and condemned acts of terrorism in the country, advocating for decisive actions to navigate the nation out of crises. The PPP’s confidence in the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was reiterated during the meeting, showcasing a unified front as they gear up for the challenging electoral landscape.
