ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Pakistan People Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has rejected the resignation of Yousuf Raza Gilani as Opposition Leader from the Senate.
A day earlier the Opposition Leader in Senate Gilani tendered his resignation when some opposition and govt legislators blamed him for the approval of SBP Amendment Bill 2021 from the Senate.
Gilani and seven other senators of the Opposition parties deliberately missed the Senate session which passed the SBP bill with just one vote lead _ 43-42.
Yousuf Raza Gillani resigned after he and seven other opposition leaders did not attend the Senate session on January 28 when the Upper House approved the State Bank of Pakistan Amendment Bill.
Opposition Leader in Senate Gillani said his staff received the agenda for the next day’s session the night before at 11:50pm and he got it at 1:00am.
He alleged that the Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has supported the government when the constitution binds him to be neutral. Chairman Senate cast his vote in favour of the SBP amendment bill.
Gilani said, “I am not astonished by the harsh words of the opponents, but the silence of our well-wishers.”
The PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has appreciated Gilani for being a “shining example” for the democracy. Bilawal said that the PPP representatives should not hold themselves responsible for the approval of the bill.
He expressed regret over the Senate chairperson’s role in passing the SBP Amendment Bill. “The chairperson passed the bill in connivance with the government.”
