Rana Sanaullah, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), announced that the PMLN election commission has released the schedule for the party’s presidential election. Nawaz Sharif is expected to be elected unopposed as the new president in a meeting of the central council at Faletti’s Hotel on Tuesday.
During a press conference in Model Town, Rana Sanaullah stated that the party’s constitution mandates the commencement of the presidential election process following the Central Working Committee’s acceptance of Shehbaz Sharif’s resignation as president. Shehbaz Sharif will continue as the Acting President until the new president is elected.
The Central Working Committee has appointed the Election Commission according to the PMLN party constitution. Nomination papers were made available on May 27 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and submissions were accepted from 12:00 PM to 12:00 PM. If anyone could not obtain the nomination papers, they would be available again on Tuesday. The final list of candidates will be compiled at 3:00 PM.
Nomination papers have been received by Tahira Aurangzeb, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Raja Farooq Haider, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, and Shah Ghulam Qadir. They will submit their papers from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is also eligible to submit his papers, with his eligibility to be discussed during the scrutiny process.
Rana Sanaullah highlighted Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, under which the PMLN secured power four times, including in the center, Punjab, and other provinces. He also noted that Pakistan achieved the honor of becoming a nuclear power during PMLN’s rule.
Rana Sanaullah also commented on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, expressing hope that he would not meet the same fate as Sheikh Mujeeb ur Rehman, the leader of Bangladesh’s Awami League, who ruled from April 17, 1971, to January 12, 1972, and again from January 25, 1975, until his assassination on August 15, 1975. Rana Sanaullah questioned the basis of PTI’s recent statements.
