Nawaz Sharif’s Upcoming Departure
ISLAMABAD: Party senator Irfan Siddiqui of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has confirmed that the party’s supremo, Nawaz Sharif, is currently in the United Kingdom and will depart for Saudi Arabia tomorrow (Wednesday).
Siddiqui refuted rumors of Nawaz Sharif’s presence in Saudi Arabia and clarified that Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the Kingdom is of a private nature, where he plans to perform Umrah and spend time with his son, Hussain Nawaz. There are no scheduled meetings with Saudi officials.
Nawaz Sharif has been residing in London since November 2019 due to health reasons and was disqualified for life in 2017 by the Supreme Court for failing to declare a receivable salary.
Siddiqui also mentioned that Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan on October 21 after a brief two-day stay in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Regarding potential visits to Qatar and China, Siddiqui explained that Nawaz Sharif’s relations with these two countries are personal and diplomatic, but there are currently no plans for visits to these nations.
Siddiqui emphasized that Nawaz Sharif’s upcoming speech at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore upon his return to Pakistan on October 21 would reflect the vision of a leader, not an ordinary politician. He also stressed the PML-N’s commitment to parliamentary supremacy and their narrative of upholding the “sanctity of [people’s] vote.”
Nawaz Sharif to Deliver Political Address at Minar-e-Pakistan Gathering
Senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah had disclosed earlier this month that the ousted prime minister would address a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan at 6 pm on the same day.
It’s worth noting that the high court allowed the PML-N supremo to travel abroad for urgent medical treatment in November 2019 based on his medical reports.
After obtaining permission from the Lahore High Court (LHC) for medical treatment, he traveled to the UK and has remained in London since then.
Nawaz’s legal team had already prepared to seek protective bail from the court in anticipation of his arrival.
Party sources disclosed that the party’s top officials, including former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz, and Vice President Hamza Shehbaz, formulated the new plan through discussions.
Initially, Shehbaz, Maryam, and other party leaders were scheduled to address the event, but it was subsequently decided that Nawaz would be the sole speaker.
Sources indicated that Nawaz would unveil a narrative to the PML-N workers during his address, a suggestion made by Chief Organizer Maryam. Overall, Party Senator Irfan Siddiqui refutes rumors, confirms Nawaz Sharif’s upcoming departure to Saudi Arabia from the UK.
