Federal Interior Minister
Former caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, is reportedly positioned to assume the role of the next federal interior minister, according to sources on Friday. It is anticipated that he will contest the Senate seat as the joint candidate of the ruling coalition.
Naqvi, concurrently serving as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is set to take the oath as a member of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s federal cabinet.
His unopposed election as PCB Chairman on February 6, in a meeting led by PCB Chief Election Commissioner Shah Khawar, attests to his standing.
Previously sworn in as the caretaker CM of Punjab on January 22, 2023, following the unanimous decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Naqvi now stands poised for a prominent federal role.
As deliberations intensify regarding the federal cabinet, sources suggest that PML-N leader Ishaq Dar is slated to become the foreign minister.
Furthermore, former caretaker foreign minister Jalil Abbas Jilani is earmarked for the role of adviser to the PM on foreign affairs, while Tariq Fatemi is expected to take on the position of special assistant to the PM on foreign affairs.
The speculated appointments underscore significant developments in the political landscape, with key figures taking on crucial responsibilities in the federal cabinet.
As Naqvi’s potential transition to federal interior minister unfolds, it marks a notable shift in leadership within the government.
