On Friday, former Director General (DG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Bashir Memon, announced his affiliation with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The PML-N’s Senior Vice President, Maryam Nawaz, appointed Memon as the convener of a 12-member committee in PML-N Sindh. This committee’s primary responsibility is to welcome Nawaz Sharif on his upcoming return to Pakistan next month.
The committee, which includes Muhammad Zubair, Nehal Hashmi, and Kheeal Das Kohistani, is tasked with ensuring the presence of party workers to greet the PML-N supremo.
In preparation for Nawaz’s grand reception, the party is gearing up for a massive rally in Lahore, aiming to gather one million people in their stronghold.
This development follows Raja Riaz, the former leader of the opposition in the National Assembly (NA), joining the Nawaz-led party earlier this month after meeting him in London.
It is worth noting that Memon had faced accusations of facilitating a suspect wanted for financial crimes abroad and failing to investigate money laundering allegations against that person. However, a sessions court acquitted the former FIA head in April last year.
In a separate incident, during an interview with a private news channel in October 2022, Memon confirmed claims made by a hacker. He disclosed that then-Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the locking of him in a washroom and had pressured him to obey orders.
Memon also alleged that the former premier used abusive language toward PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz, which provoked his strong response.
He mentioned that Azam Khan, the then-principal secretary of the Prime Minister, intervened by grabbing his hand, escorting him out of the room, and locking him in the washroom. Overall Bashir Memon is now key member of PML-N.
