Rigging Elections
In a Karachi news conference, former Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon leveled allegations against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), claiming the party consistently secured power through election rigging throughout Pakistan’s history.
Memon highlighted what he perceived as a pattern, citing instances from the formation of the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) to the era of nine stars. He accused PML-N, along with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), of engaging in divisive and prejudiced politics.
While not explicitly naming individuals, Memon referenced a PML-N leader’s criticism of Sindh’s condition. He defended Sindh’s healthcare achievements, asserting that hospitals are available in every district, offering advanced treatments like robotic and cyber knife surgery. Memon contrasted this with PML-N’s governance in Punjab, alleging a failure to build a single hospital.
Expressing concern about potential alliances among parties losing popularity, Memon suggested these efforts aimed to thwart the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from gaining power in upcoming elections. He adamantly opposed a recurrence of a selected government scenario, referencing the events of 2018, and stressed the importance of transparent elections in 2024.
Memon also criticized PML-N’s economic performance during the 16-month tenure of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), asserting that the party failed to provide economic relief to the masses, particularly highlighting shortcomings in the finance division. Overall, Sharjeel Memon alleges PML-N consistently obtained power through rigging elections, citing historical patterns of electoral manipulation.
Electricity Crisis In Gaza Hospital Results In Tragic Deaths Of Three Palestinian Infants
Meanwhile,
Amid Israel’s month-long military campaign targeting Hamas in north Gaza, major hospitals, including Al-Shifa, face severe challenges due to power shortages. Gaza health ministry spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qidra reported that three premature babies have died, and dozens are at risk due to the lack of electricity.
Al-Qidra accused Israeli fire of terrorizing both medical officials and civilians. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israel’s chief military spokesperson, stated that the military would assist in evacuating babies from the hospital at the staff’s request.
