ISLAMABAD: PML(N) vice-president and chief organizer Maryam Nawaz defended dynastic politics saying that the party’s supremo (her father), has given her the responsibility to reorganize PML-N.
She invented a new term to defend her family politics and said, “A lot of people are furious over dynastic [politics]. The nation’s love is not called a dynasty, it is a democracy.”
Maryam Nawaz stated this today said while addressing the supporters of the party during the PML-N workers’ convention in Bahawalpur.
Nawaz Sharif, the father of Maryam Nawaz, has tasked her with the party’s restructuring.
On Wednesday, a PML-N stalwart and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi resigned from the party with a view that the party did not consult him for the elevation of Maryam Nawaz.
Some party leaders downplayed the resignation saying the news was fake, but Mohammad Zubair, a spokesperson for Nawaz Sharif confirmed the news today evening.
Zubair tried to justify the resignation and said, “He [Abbasi] is a big leader, and quitting the post will have no effect on him.”
Maryam Nawaz said that the party titles have recently been given and she “cherishes her supporters’ love more than the designations” granted to her.
The coalition government has started blowing up price-hike bombs from the day Maryam Nawaz landed in Lahore. The government welcomed her with Rs35 per liter increase in petrol/diesel prices.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday the government announced Rs60/kg increase in the LPG rate and indicated raise in electricity and natural gas tariffs.
