PTI Expulsion
PESHAWAR: Expressing disappointment over his expulsion from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat on Thursday stated that he was unwilling to meet party founder Imran Khan to discuss the matter.
Marwat cited repeated disrespect and humiliation as his reasons for refusing a meeting with the imprisoned PTI leader.
His remarks came a day after PTI officially expelled him from the party for repeated violations of party discipline, following the directives of Imran Khan.
The decision followed Marwat’s controversial statements during a protest rally in Swabi, where PTI had gathered on February 8 to protest alleged election rigging.
During his speech, Marwat remarked that “bad people” like himself often proved useful in “bad times,” while some “good people” had chosen to remain silent.

His speech reportedly angered the PTI founder, who immediately directed party leaders to issue a notification terminating Marwat’s basic membership, sources told Geo News. Following Khan’s instructions, PTI’s central leadership swiftly issued an official notification expelling Marwat from the party.
However, in response to his removal, Marwat claimed that his expulsion was not Khan’s decision alone. He alleged that an influential group within the party, seeking to safeguard its own interests, orchestrated his removal. He further accused this faction of isolating Khan and making unilateral decisions without his genuine approval.
Marwat, known for his outspoken nature and frequent criticism of PTI leaders, asserted that his removal was completely unjust. He expressed frustration that despite his loyalty and support for PTI during challenging times, his stance was never heard or acknowledged.
This was not the first time Marwat had clashed with the party’s leadership. Last month, PTI issued him a show-cause notice for violating party discipline due to his remarks against PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja. He had previously questioned Raja’s legitimacy as the party’s secretary general, arguing that he had never contested the intra-party elections.
Additionally, in May 2024, Marwat was issued another show-cause notice for making critical remarks about PTI’s negotiations with the coalition government.
Although his party membership was initially revoked, no further action was taken after Imran Khan pardoned him. However, his latest remarks appeared to have exhausted the party’s patience, leading to his final expulsion.
Now, with Marwat refusing to engage in any discussions regarding his removal, the rift within PTI seems to have deepened, exposing growing tensions within the party’s leadership.
