JIT disclosed more than 130 pieces of evidence connecting Imran Khan to unrest on May 9th

The Joint Investigation Team announced on Monday that it has compiled over 130 pieces of evidence linking Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, to the violent incidents of May 9th.

According to JIT sources, Imran Khan’s involvement in incitement and violent acts during the May 9 unrest has been firmly established. The JIT alleges that the unrest was pre-planned ahead of Imran Khan’s arrest, with evidence indicating his significant role in organizing the protests which escalated into violence.

During the investigation, Imran Khan reportedly acknowledged that his supporters were mobilizing to protest in the Cantt area following his arrest. Local PTI leaders purportedly encouraged party workers to take to the streets, exacerbating tensions and leading to subsequent violent clashes.

Following Imran Khan’s arrest by Lahore police in connection with multiple cases, including the attack on Jinnah House during the May 9 riots, the former prime minister was formally detained at Adiala Jail.

Investigations into charges related to incitement against the state are ongoing.

Initially seeking to transfer him to Lahore for further interrogation, the Rawalpindi court denied the request citing security concerns.

Imran Khan is scheduled to appear via video link before the Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore on Monday, where police are expected to seek his remand for further investigation into the Jinnah House incident.

Separately, Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with a new reference in the Toshakhana case. They have been granted an eight-day physical remand, with the federal government directing their trial to be conducted at Adiala Jail.
