Imran, Umar, and Fawad are summoned by ECP in contempt case

Imran Khan, Asad Umar, and senior party official Fawad Chaudhry were all personally called before an Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) bench on Tuesday in connection with a contempt case brought against them.

The four-member bench, led by Nisar Durrani, voiced its displeasure at the three PTI leaders’ absence during the hearing of the case of contempt of the ECP and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) SIkandar Sultan Raja.

Faisal Chaudhry, an attorney representing PTI, appeared before the ECP panel. He questioned the validity of the three notices that the ECP had sent to the PTI leaders.

In this regard, he emphasized that a matter was still pending in the high court and pleaded with the ECP to hold off until the outcome.

The attorney informed the bench that the high court’s next hearing was set for September 29 and asked that the hearing on the contempt charge be postponed pending the outcome of the case.

The bench informed the attorney that regardless of the date chosen, Imran Khan will have to appear before the panel. Shah Muhammad Jatoi, an ECP member who was sitting on the bench, stated that the high court had halted the issuance of orders and clarified that the indictment was not an order.

If Imran Khan was exempt from the law, Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan, an ECP member from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa who was also seated on the bench, questioned the PTI attorney.

If Imran Khan was exempt from the law, Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan, an ECP member from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa who was also seated on the bench, questioned the PTI attorney. However, the attorney emphasized that the show-cause notices sent by the ECP were not legal.

No one was above the law, according to attorney Faisal Chaudhary, but he also emphasized that there was a chance the high court might resolve the matter on September 29. Although he emphasized that the institution had a strong reputation, he claimed that the loss of confidence had grown.
