Imran Khan, the jailed founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has once again declined to undergo a polygraph test requested by Lahore police, marking the fourth time he has refused to cooperate with the investigation into the May 9 riots.
A police team led by DSP Asif Javed visited Adiala Jail on Monday to carry out a polygraph test, photogrammetric analysis, and voice matching as part of inquiries into 11 cases filed in Lahore related to the violent events of May 9. The team included members of the Punjab Forensic Unit and technical experts, as well as Inspectors Muhammad Aslam, Tasaduq, Saleem, and Naveed.
According to sources, prison authorities informed Imran Khan of the team’s arrival and the court order authorizing the procedures. However, he refused to participate in the investigation once again.
Earlier, Khan had stated that he would only cooperate if his lawyers were present. Yet, even after the investigation team returned with members of his legal counsel, he submitted a written response invoking Article 13 of the Constitution, which protects individuals from being forced to provide self-incriminating evidence.
Investigators say the refusal is a significant hurdle in the probe, as the tests are considered crucial in verifying the allegations against him. Despite waiting for over four hours at the jail, the investigation team was ultimately forced to return to Lahore without conducting the tests.
Authorities emphasize that the inquiry cannot proceed effectively unless Imran Khan agrees to the required examinations.
