Imran Khan Plans Major Restructuring in PTI After Expressing Disappointment with Leadership

Imran Khan

Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, disillusioned with the current leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is taking steps to overhaul the party by bringing back key figures from his old political team.

Sources close to the party revealed that prominent leaders such as Musarrat Jamshed Cheema and Fawad Chaudhry are expected to return to the party and will likely be assigned important roles within the organization.

Additionally, Zartaj Gul and Ali Muhammad Khan, both former PTI members, are also set to be given central positions in the restructured party leadership.

Imran Khan’s discontent with the current leadership stems from what he perceives as failures in managing PTI’s D-Chowk protest movement and crafting a coherent narrative to support the cause.

According to sources, Khan has voiced concerns that the leadership has not effectively handled the protest strategy, undermining PTI’s political agenda.

This dissatisfaction has prompted Khan to initiate changes within the party structure, with an emphasis on revitalizing the leadership to better align with his vision and approach.

The decision to reorganize the party follows a detailed report from his sister, Aleema Khan, highlighting the growing dissatisfaction with PTI’s current trajectory.

Khan has expressed a firm resolve to implement “substantial changes” to restore PTI’s strength and direction. This restructuring includes bringing back experienced leaders who were previously sidelined.

However, the move to reintroduce the old political team has met with resistance from some within PTI, with concerns about the potential impact on the party’s cohesion.

To address these concerns, it is anticipated that a “transitional” leadership setup will be established, with the returnees being assessed for their performance in these central roles before any permanent appointments are made.

The situation has also led to PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan expressing discontent with his current position, particularly after facing severe internal criticism.

This unrest highlights the growing pressures within PTI as the party navigates a difficult political phase under Khan’s leadership.
