Cipher Conspiracy
Imran Khan, the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has called for a fresh inquiry into United States Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu’s denial of the “cipher conspiracy” allegations. Lu testified before a Congressional panel, asserting that the conspiracy theory was false.
Speaking from Adiala jail, Khan refuted claims that the US envoy had visited him and expressed his intention to discuss Lu’s statement and the alleged involvement of the US embassy in the ciphergate controversy if such a meeting occurred.
He emphasized that the original cipher document remains with the Foreign Office, dismissing accusations that he mishandled classified information during his tenure as prime minister.
Furthermore, Khan stressed that the security of the prime minister’s office is not solely his responsibility but is governed by established protocols.
He also called for a separate judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and the February 8 elections, alleging that his party is being targeted for elimination under the pretext of these incidents.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan denounced Lu’s statement as a “lie” and demanded a reopening of the inquiry into the ciphergate controversy.
The controversy emerged when Khan, shortly before his ouster in April 2022, waved a letter at a public rally, alleging a foreign conspiracy against his government.
Although the contents of the letter were not disclosed, Khan later accused the United States of conspiring with his political rivals to remove him from power, citing Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu’s involvement.
Amid concerns for Khan’s safety, Barrister Gohar warned that powerful individuals would be held accountable if any harm came to the PTI founder.
He referenced past remarks by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah as evidence of potential threats to Khan’s life.
Additionally, PTI has finalized its candidates for the upcoming Senate elections and is preparing for by-elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The party remains committed to claiming its mandate and ensuring fair representation in the political arena.
