ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb on Thursday highlighted the inappropriate language used by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) activist Sanam Javaid and sought her lawyer’s assurance that such behavior would not be repeated.
“I saw Sanam Javaid using inappropriate language on the internet,” Justice Aurangzeb remarked while hearing the PTI leader’s plea for her release.
She has been embroiled in legal battles for months and has faced multiple arrests in connection with the May 9 riots. These riots were triggered by the arrest of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan in a graft case, which led to the vandalization of several military installations.
She has been acquitted in four cases, including one filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and has secured bail in the remaining eight cases.
On Monday, the high court ordered her release and prevented law enforcement agencies from arresting her until Thursday (today), providing her significant relief.
This decision followed her father’s petition against her arrest, which occurred soon after her release in the FIA case.
A day earlier, she was moved to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad on the orders of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
During the hearing of the plea against her arrest, Sanam’s lawyer assured the court that his client would refrain from using inappropriate language in the future.
Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan informed the court that the Balochistan police were not insisting on securing Sanam Javaid’s transit remand. This referred to the latest case lodged against her in Balochistan under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
“Sanam Javaid is free and can now return to her province,” the official stated.
The court then declared her arrest “illegal” and disposed of the plea.
Speaking to the media at the IHC, Sanam’s lawyer, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, said that the attorney general assured them that she would not be arrested in any other case in the country.
He further revealed that the AGP indicated that the cases registered against his client in Balochistan and Islamabad would be withdrawn within two days.
Regarding the issue of Sanam Javaid’s language, Advocate Ali apologized to the court on behalf of his client and reassured that she would exercise due caution in the future, responding to Justice Aurangzeb’s concerns about her use of harsh and improper words.
