Get ready for PTI-Govt match in Islamabad: 30,000 cops, Rangers and FC personnel being deployed in the city with containers ahead of protest march

PTI chief Imran Khan is demanding fresh elections and delay in appointment of the next chief of army staff until after the general elections.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police has started its preparations to handle march of PTI protesters in Islamabad to demand new elections on the call of PTI chairman Imran Khan.

A couple of weeks ago, Imran Khan said he would give a call to his party workers to gather in Islamabad this month to hold a protest to force the government to announce new elections.

Islamabad police have requested 30,000 personnel of police, Rangers, and FC from provinces for security purpose while the city administration plans to create blockades using containers.

The Islamabad police said on Twitter that it was forced to take extra security measures as “yesterday some people are headed towards Islamabad from Punjab to press for their political demands.”

Police said that to tackle the potential law and order situation the security in the Red Zone has been enhanced with additional deployments on the entry points.

The ICT police also urged people who work or go school in the Red Zone to leave early to avoid possible trouble.

The ICT police said it was considering a number of measures including digging trenches and using drones to fire tear gas shell while hundreds of containers could be used to stop the PTI long march.

Police officials have also requisitioned additional supplies of tear gas shells.

PTI Chief Imran Khan has threatened to march on the federal capital in September and he is demanding fresh elections, delay in appointment of the next chief of army staff (COAS) until after the general elections.

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is retiring on November 19, thus the process for the appointment of his successor will commence in October-end, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said.
