ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has refused to meet with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team investigating the alleged dissemination of an “anti-state narrative” from his social media account.
Sources said that Khan has declined to answer any questions from the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing.
On Wednesday, the Cyber Crime Wing sought permission from the judicial magistrate to interrogate Khan at Adiala Jail regarding the sharing of “anti-state activities” and “anti-state narratives” on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The institution claims the content was allegedly shared from Khan’s profile.
According to media reports, Khan allegedly constructed a false narrative and spread misinformation against Pakistani state institutions, including the army, through his X account, which has over 20 million followers.
The FIA team asserted that a video uploaded on May 26 was “misleading, intimidating, and amounted to inciting officers/soldiers of the armed forces of Pakistan to mutiny.”
It alleged that the post was a subversive act intended to create discord within the armed forces and other state pillars.
The video has been viewed by 4.2 million X users, liked by 56,000, and reshared by 38,000, according to the application.
However, the PTI founder has refused to cooperate with the FIA investigation and declined to answer any of their questions, insisting he would respond only in the presence of his lawyers.
Khan is currently serving sentences related to the cypher and Iddat cases in a Punjab jail. On Thursday, he appeared via video link in the Supreme Court concerning the National Accountability Bureau law amendment case.
Imran Khan’s Twitter Account is being operated from abroad
PTI Secretary Information Rauf Hassan claimed that Imran Khan’s official account was operated from abroad, with the party’s social media head based in the United States.
He stated that the party would investigate who uploaded the video related to former Bangladesh president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Khan’s account.
Hassan added that PTI MNAs and MPAs who reshared the video did so in their personal capacity.
After the FIA announced an inquiry into the video, Hassan retracted his statement, claiming he had not seen the video himself.
The PTI spokesperson stated that if the video was found to contradict PTI’s narrative, it would be deleted.
