On Saturday, five leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were granted official permission to meet former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. This decision followed a brief standoff, as PTI leadership had initially refused to visit the prison until all five members received access.
Initially, authorities had only approved three leaders Barrister Gohar, Asad Qaiser, and Senator Ali Zafar for the meeting.
This limitation led to dissatisfaction among the PTI leaders, who insisted that they would not proceed without their two additional colleagues, Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and Hamid Raza.
PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram confirmed the approval through a post on the social media platform X, stating, “We are now on our way to Adiala Jail for the meeting.”
He expressed relief that the party’s insistence on including all five leaders had paid off, remarking, “The barrister’s obstinacy has worked,” which highlighted the party’s united front.
Earlier, Barrister Gohar had been waiting for his colleagues at his office. He conveyed to Kamran Murtaza, another PTI official, that they would not proceed if Raja and Raza were excluded from the visit.
Tensions escalated further when Adiala Jail authorities initially barred Salman Akram Raja from meeting Khan, which intensified internal discussions within PTI.
Ultimately, the successful inclusion of all five leaders paved the way for their visit to Khan. This development underscores the party’s determination to maintain unity and solidarity in challenging circumstances, reflecting their commitment to supporting their leader in prison.
