Seat Adjustments
Maulana Fazl ur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), announced seat adjustments with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday, following his meeting with PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif. Rehman stated, “We [PML-N and JUI-F] had struggled together in the past, and we will continue the alliance in the future.”
He criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declaring, “The PTI is not a political party but has an agenda to harm the country, playing with the fate of Kashmir, and accepting Israel. Such a party [PTI] has no right to be branded as Pakistan’s political party.”
Rehman added, “The threat of conspiracy and anarchy against the country still looms, and it has to be averted.”
Vowing not to adopt any extremist attitude towards the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Rehman stated, “It is well and good if we settle matters with the PPP. However, if that does not happen, we will not create any situation of uncertainty during the electoral campaign.”
In response to PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s statement about “old politicians,” Rehman remarked, “By talking about old politicians, Bilawal has given the message first to his father, Asif Ali Zardari.”
He emphasized that his party does not want to make the upcoming elections controversial and conveyed a clear message to state institutions regarding law and order in the electoral campaigns of candidates in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
IHC Nullifies Jail Trial Notification for Imran Khan in Cipher Case on August 29
Meanwhile, ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) nullified the notification issued on August 29 for conducting the jail trial of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the cipher case, charging him with leaking state secrets.
A special court had been conducting the trial in jail due to security concerns since Khan’s indictment last month.
Imran Khan, presently in Adiala jail, had filed an intra-court appeal against his jail trial, and the division bench, comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Riffat Imtiaz, allowed the appeal, declaring the law ministry’s notification “without lawful authority and no legal effect.”
