MARDAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed his opposition on Saturday to the idea of imprisoning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and other politicians.
Speaking in Mardan, Rehman emphasized that it was the responsibility of the courts to determine the innocence of the PTI leader. He also made it clear that promoting extremism in politics had no place in the country.
“Both the JUI-F and PTI had exhibited rigidity in their attitudes in the past,” Rehman acknowledged. “Efforts are being made to restore balance in the country.”
Commenting on the anniversary of the elections, Rehman claimed, “The government was formed on the basis of rigging on February 8.” He further asserted, “The JUI-F has fought its battle alone.”
Rehman also stressed that it was unjust to remove political opponents through force. “It is important to maintain dialogue with opponents in politics,” he added, underlining the need for constructive political engagement.
He highlighted that economic prosperity could only be achieved if the common people prospered. “The rigging in both the central and provincial general elections was clear,” he said.
Addressing concerns about the registration of seminaries, Rehman criticized the delay in the process. “We want to resolve these issues in a responsible manner,” he noted.
He also reflected on the success of the 26th constitutional amendment, affirming, “Every institution must function within the boundaries set by the country’s constitution.”
Finally, commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump, Rehman remarked, “Donald Trump has no understanding of global issues.”
