PESHAWAR: Elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be held on April 16 to elect members of the provincial assembly.
Haji Ghulam Ali, Governor of KP announced this late on Tuesday night.
He accepted the offer of the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold KP assembly’s elections on April 16 and conveyed it to the ECP.
Governor KP also assured the ECP that the polls will be held in a free and fair environment.
Earlier, the ECP had told the KP governor to decide on a date for the elections between April 15-17.
The governor had subsequently hinted at deciding on a date between April 16-18.
The 11th Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly was dissolved on January 18, 2023.
The KP Assembly was dissolved after former chief minister Mahmood Khan sent advice to Haji Ghulam Ali, Governor of the province.
Ali subsequently acted on the advice and dissolved the assembly. The PTI government dissolved the assembly three days after the dissolution of the Punjab assembly.
